We’ve had the above photo (courtesy of Mick Buchanan) on top of our club page for a while now but it’s time for a new one. Someone currently in the club must have a nice image that we could use, so if you’re interested in having one of your shots on display at the top of this page, then why not submit one. Bear in mind the size of the header above so your shot will have to fit in. The shot should be representative of Meath and maybe even Navan itself, so no shots of the Eiffel Tower or the Samuel Beckett Bridge please. HDR swans are also excluded!

Post your entries up on our facebook page and the one with the most “likes” will be chosen. Closing date is 31st January.

Due to unforeseen circumstances we’ve had to juggle our calendar about a little bit. Instead of the advertised Low Light talk by Reggie Smith, we will have Fran Byrne give a talk on landscape and wildlife photography. Fran was due to give his talk in May but he has kindly agreed to step in for Reggie next Monday week.

Fran is a very talented photographer who does a lot of his work in and around the Wicklow Mountains. He has some fantastic images of the wild deer and some beautiful early morning sunrise/long exposure shots.

Stolen Camera Gear

A lot of you will remember one of our lecturer from last year, Paul Sherwood. He gave us a very interesting talk on Wedding Photography. Well Paul’s car was broken into a couple of days ago and he lost all of his gear. Here are more details including serial numbers, taken from Random Irish Photos.com.

Last week he had the photographic gear below stolen from his car parked on a Dublin city centre street. There is a reward for the safe return of any or preferably all of this gear.If you are looking to buy any ‘second hand’ camera equipment, can you please bear in mind that some of the items below could well be what you are being offered.If you don’t fancy buying some stolen camera gear and you care about the fact that Paul has had the heart of his business effectively ripped out so soon to Christmas and New Year – then please re-post this link.Camera bodies:

Brainwave Charity Calendar

Well done to club member Kevin Deane who won a competition to have one of his shots published in a charity 2012 calendar. The Brainwave Irish Epilepsy Association calendar is on sale here.

Kevin’s shot was taken at our recent club outing to Bective Abbey, so well done Kevin.

Next Monday night we will have a talk by Paul Walsh on Sports photography and hopefully on the project he did to recreate Dublin photographs taken 50 years ago.

Well done to all the participants in Monday night’s open competition and especially to all the winners of the various sections. Big thanks to our judge Barry Cronin who did a sterling job.

The closing date for our next competition is less than two weeks away so it’s time to get your images sent off for printing. This time it’s a themed competition and the theme is “Reflections”.

Don’t forget to check the rules with regard to image sizes – both print and digital.

Boards.ie Book Launch

A number of club members have photos published in the upcoming 4th edition of the Boards.ie Photobook.

Every year, the users from the photography forum on Boards.ie stick their heads and hands together to organize the annual Boards Photobook. The entire project is conducted online and is organized by volunteers from the forum.

The book showcases some of the finest photography work from both amateurs and professionals and will make a great Christmas present; as for each book sold, a charitable donation will be made to Santa Strike Force. The feelgood factor comes free!

Boards Photo Book launches at the Dublin Camera Gallery on Camden Street at 8pm on November 26th 2011.

All are welcome to come along to the launch and even buy a copy of the book – it’s all for a good cause.
